Members Helping Members - Educating, Informing, Supporting
I have been using Wordpress for a few years. When people hear the name "Wordpress" they typically think of a blog. While Wordpress is a blogging platform, it's so much more than that. I use Wordpress as an essential part of my business on a regular basis. If you're an entrepreneur, and you don't know, or won't consider Wordpress as your CMS, or content management system, you're really missing out.
Wordpress is Great For Lean Startups (Low Cost)
I can't think of a quicker way to get a site up and running than with Wordpress. I have shared hosting, which is fine for smaller sites. With Bluehost as my hosting company, I can host a ton of Wordpress sites for the cost of the domain name, and my $3-$5 per month hosting plan. I am a web developer, and I can build my own custom responsive Wordpress themes, but even if you don't know how to code, there are hundreds, if not thousands of free responsive Wordpress themes available. Here are 3 (95 total) collections of great free themes:
Wordpress is Quick and Easy to Set Up
Being a web designer and developer, and an entrepreneur, when I get an idea in my head, I want to get it up and running as quickly as possible. I want the costs to be low, and I just want to hit the ground running. With Wordpress, I can get a site set up, pages built, and have it fully operational within a day or two. There are no developers, no meetings, I just get the site up and get my idea out there. This is a great way to get an idea out there. promote it, and see if it takes hold. Speed and efficiency is key, and Wordpress is the locksmith.
Premium Wordpress Themes Are Available At A Low Price
This is true, you just have to know where to look. There are sites out there that offer incredible deals, such as Elegant Themes where you can get 86+ Premium Wordpress Themes for one low priced membership. They have great support, and they even have a drag-and-drop page builder, along with a new theme called Divi, so you can build your own custom webpage layouts, without knowing anything about coding or web design.
There's also MyThemeShop, which also has excellent premium responsive Wordpress themes, for a good price. Here's a little secret: If you join their mailing list, they'll email you every now and then, telling you about a new theme, and you can even sometimes get an awesome new Wordpress theme for only $7 or $9.
Plugins to Save the Day
It can be expensive to pay someone to code a bunch of extra features into your website. With Wordpress, you can add in great features easily by installing plugins. You can add important things such as email list signup forms, custom contact forms, social media sharing buttons, sliding galleries, and anything else that you can think of, all with a few simple plugins. The best part about this is that most of them are free.
Contact Form 7
For example, you can install the Contact Form 7 plugin, and a Contact DB plugin, and you'll have a working custom contact form that saves each submission to a database in your admin area. It is easy to do, and the plugin is free.
Email Signup Forms (I use Mailchimp)
An important part of any entrepreneur's site is collecting email addresses. You need to be able to connect with those who are interested in your site and your content. I use Mailchimp, which is free for the first 2000 subscribers (great for entrepreneurs) and you can download numerous plugins that integrate signup forms on your website, by just filling out a couple of form fields.
It doesn't stop there! If you want to build a small to medium online store, you can do it easily, and for free with the Woocommerce plugin. The most you might need to invest is $40 or $50 for a Woocommerce enabled Wordpress theme (There are a lot of good free ones out there already). After that, you can upload and manage your products and even collect payments online via Paypal or other payment methods.
Wordpress is Great For SEO
If you download the Yoast SEO plugin for Wordpress, it guides you through everything that you need for a good SEO ranking on your site. You'll get a score, from red for bad to green for good, letting you know how good your SEO performance is on that particular page. It even provides tips, letting you know what you can do to improve your SEO. If you want more information, you can view my setup guide video here.
Wordpress Is a Great Content Management System!
There are other reasons that I like Wordpress as my content management system of choice. There are low-cost premium plugins available, and you can also track your traffic, all inside of the Wordpress admin area. It's great to have everything in one place. You can implement just about any feature you can imagine, and jumpstart any project on a budget.
