So, after spending literally my entire life in and around the used car dealership my family founded and still run here in Knoxville. I have garnered the courage to take the leap and chase my dream of starting my own dealership, which is a dream that has been in me since I was arranging my hot wheels to look like  a car dealership. That's right my hot wheels where for sale not for play, yeah you guessed it, I was a slightly odd child.

My first business venture came at 7 when I would rummage around my father's dealership and round up any wheel lug nuts I could find and I would clean them up and set in front of our house trying to sell them. Most kids go with lemonade which is a safe play but I like to push the envelope and went with the "slightly" used lug nuts. I am not sure if it was my location or if I was just not in the right marketing channels but sales where slow.

I say all of this to ask the EoK community if anyone may have any ideas or suggestions, you might have for a new start up in our community, we would love to hear it. Any specific organizations we should be active in participating in / any local marketing channel we should pursue / do you see value in local tv or print advertising / do you see one price no negotiating as a good platform or do you think negotiating is still the way to go / any and all suggestions or thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all for being so kind to share your knowledge and experience!

That's great! The MVC can be pretty reasonable, as long as you do things their way...

@Dave i like that ACNPoCWLSIITC ... Yeah the licensing process is pretty intense. I just spoke with her yesterday and it seems we are very close to getting our license issued.

"A Certain National Pre-owned Chain Whose Local Store Is In Turkey Creek".

Incidentally, I just took a client through the dealership-licensing process. Manufacturer franchise, not pre-owned, but I did build a pretty good relationship with the nice lady who handles all of the dealership applications.

@Dave thank you for your feedback. Just curious what does ACNPoCWLSIITC stand for?

First, congratulations! Taking the leap to start your own shop - whatever it is - is crazy and exciting. I did it in law practice a bit more than a year ago, so I can appreciate where you are.

Second, I agree with everything Eric said. To put it another way: if you want those customers, your competition is primarily A Certain National Pre-owned Chain Whose Local Store Is In Turkey Creek. ;-) Whatever their flaws, they offer an outstanding customer experience. People don't want to feel like they're being condescended to or taken advantage of, and ACNPoCWLSIITC caters to that.
