Despite the lifting of long standing prohibitions on soliciting equity capital, the fundamentals have not changed.  Investors don't invest in ideas, concepts, intellectual property, or even companies.  They invest in people in markets they like and understand.  All those other things must be present and in good standing, but focus first on the team.  In the age of the JOBS Act, marketing and sales come first, not last.  Once upon a time, marketing and sales were the last hires.  Now, with all the "noise," they need to be part of the startup team if you wish to be successful.  Remember, you are not just competing with the company next door anymore.  You are competing with the company in Silicon Valley, and, soon, China.  The bar has never been lower to start a company, but the competition for capital and sales have never been higher.
