Twitter is a great social tool for staying connected with your group of virtual/real contacts. You sign up for the service at http://twitter.com, register your cell phone for SMS messages, then add a few friends that you follow or invite a few to follow you. Your text messages to twitter are broadcast to your list of followers. It's like chatting/instant messaging via your cell phone. All of your followers see your posts and anyone can respond. You can send broadcast messages, directed messages, or direct/private messages from your cell phone to anyone on twitter. I use twitter to ask questions, setup meetings, invite to lunch, answer questions, share websites/services, etc. If you haven't tried it, feel free to add me as a friend and practice sending a message or two.
