Giant Chinese 3D Printer Creates Concrete Houses!

Strangely, this was found on the Russia Today website.  Because I guess the Chinese aren't into journalism and propaganda for some reason! ;-)

I learned something today and would like to share with you.

I've always been eminently opposed to the idea of "networking".  I've always associated networking with "fake" or a "false sense of value".  You're forcing a relationship...just doesn't feel right.

BUT...members of EOK keep saying this is the best "networking" organization they've ever experienced.…

Why Wordpress Is The Best CMS

I have been using Wordpress for a few years. When people hear the name "Wordpress" they typically think of a blog. While Wordpress is a blogging platform, it's so much more than that. I use Wordpress as an essential part of my business on a regular basis. If you're an entrepreneur, and you don't know, or won't consider Wordpress as your CMS, or content management system, you're really missing out.

Wordpress is Great For Lean Startups (Low…

Would You Explore Google Glass if You Could?

Earlier this month, I presented at an EOK meeting and talked about how Google Glass might be used in business. I highlighted some of the unique qualities of Glass such as hands-free communication, augmented reality capabiliy, and close-up view for recording and demonstrating. Angel Capital Group Open Pitch

We at Angel Capital Group have started what we call Open Pitch.

Three local companies will be invited to pitch for 8 minutes with 5 minutes of Q&A in the 45 minutes prior to our normal monthly meeting time monthly.  There is no guarantee of funding, but due to popularity, we have started an internal mentor program to allow these Open Pitch companies to escalate to funding within ACG.  We expect it to figure prominently into the 2014 investment season.  I think you know we will be…

Woo Clients by Showing Instead of Telling

I'm just getting started in the freelance web development game, and I'm happy to say I just wrapped up with my first real client! I've worked in the past for people I knew, but this was the first client who came into the professional relationship cold.

If people already know you and like you, it's easy for them to decide to pay you to perform a service they need. If that prior relationship doesn't exist, they need something else that feels substantial. Many pitches to clients…

Fundamentals of Venture Capital

Despite the lifting of long standing prohibitions on soliciting equity capital, the fundamentals have not changed.  Investors don't invest in ideas, concepts, intellectual property, or even companies.  They invest in people in markets they like and understand.  All those other things must be present and in good standing, but focus first on the team.  In the age of the JOBS Act, marketing and sales come first, not last.  Once upon a time, marketing and sales were the last hires.  Now, with…

Backyard Nuclear Power!

I want one of these!  Electricity and hot water from a small self-contained system!  This sounds amazing.  I just read that Toshiba is working on building these system smaller and smaller.  A "pocket nuke" or "backyard reactor" would be awesome!  Going off the grid with a little battery buried in the ground!

Let’s Stop Focusing on Shiny Gadgets and Start Using Tech to Empower People ( via WIRED )

Even though Red Burns was one of the most influential figures in the tech industry over the past 30 years — most famous for co-founding the groundbreaking Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) at NYU, and in a sense, the beginnings of interaction design — it’s not uncommon for…

Matt Googe, Esq. Joining ROBINSON IP LAW, PLLC

I wanted to let the EOK community know that Knoxville native and patent attorney Matt Googe will be joining Robinson IP Law, PLLC starting September 1, 2013. He resigned today from Luedeka Neely Group. Matt clerked at Luedeka while in law school and worked there as a full-time attorney since 2011.  A few years ago when I taught trademark law at the UT College of Law, Matt made the highest grade in the class and has been a great attorney to work with while we were at our previous firm. Now…

13 Thoughts on Being an Entrepreneur ( Gary Vaynerchuk )

I started this post off wanting to make a list of things entrepreneurs shouldn’t say, or things real entrepreneurs don’t do, but because this isMedium, I’ve come to realize that it feels more like a journal and so it feels more appropriate to talk directly…
