Weigh Your Words

Did I Say That?

I read several articles and blog posts today about the marketing firm employee who Tweeted on behalf of Chrysler.  I won’t rehash the entire story (you can read it here).

Are You Guilty of Social Sabotage?

As an entrepreneur or small business owner, Twitter is a great place to be... if you're using it properly. If you're not, you may be guilty of social sabotage. For example:

It is possible to be too private.

Why would you want to protect your tweets? If you aren't revealing top secrets that only your closest friends should see, and you're not in any witness protection plan, let others follow with you! What is the harm? You can always unfollow or even…

Think Your Biz Plan has what it Takes?

The Development Corp of Knox County announces it's annual Business Plan Competition.  I was a participant last year, it was an amazing experience.  This is way more than an exercise in writing a biz plan.  Far from it.  The competition spans the entire startup process, getting funding, marketing, pitching to investors, and so on.  I came in 3rd place last year with my biz plan for Knoxville Robots.  That plan is on the back burner for the…

Part II: U.S. Senate Passes Patent Reform Bill--Good News For All?

As many of you know, I recently posted information regarding the Patent Reform Act of 2011 and why, contrary to its billing, such changes to current U.S. patent law would actually do more harm to individual inventors and small businesses than help them. (The measure passed the U.S. Senate by an overwhelming 95-5 vote last week.)  One response to my position that I would expect from someone more familiar with this particular bill would be as follows: “But Mr. Robinson, the bill specifically…

EOK Becoming More Visible on Twitter

I have been asked to help promote EOK on Twitter and am excited to get started. I would like to tell you about some of the things EOK will be embracing,  and to ask for your support:

  • We will start live tweeting during our morning sessions. Theo Aukerman has agreed to be our first live tweeter and we hope to eventually have enough volunteers to have two or three live tweeting. Live tweeting stirs interest in what we do and also allows members to get the highlights when we are…

U.S. Senate Passes Patent Reform Bill--Good News For All?

This week, the U.S. Senate passed the 2011 Patent Reform Bill (now dubbed the “America Invents Act”) by a margin of 95-5. This bill has been called by many a bipartisan measure, and many folks are welcoming the notion of the “left” and the “right” agreeing on something these days. Perhaps the Senate was respecting Rodney King’s plea of “Can’t we all just get along?”, as this week also marked the 20th anniversary of his notorious beating by L.A. police which led to riots in the… Continue
