6 Tips for an Organized “Un-Decking of the Halls”

Was decorating for Christmas easy this year? Could you quickly find what you were looking for in all of those boxes of holiday decorations? If you answered no then read on. I have some tips that you can implement now that will make next year’s decorating easier.

Sort items into logical categories and store each category in a separate container. For example, a container that is labeled living room tree ornaments should only contain ornaments for that specific tree. Please resist the urg… Continue

I Could Have Made a Million With My Sticky Note Idea

A few weeks ago I listened to an EOK Podcast on product development. My head was spinning. I know that I have a product or two or three that I can bring to market. Well today I discovered that I missed the boat completely on one of them.

I went to Office Max to by some office supplies. I saw a new line of organizing products designed by Peter Walsh (Clean Sweep and Oprah) called [in] place system.
These are items to organize action files and projects. He uses sticky notes for file labels and fo… Continue

Filled to the Brink…of Chaos

As an organizing consultant, I help my clients take control of their surroundings, their time and their information by designing custom organizing systems for them based on their habits and by teaching them the organizing principles that I have learned over the years. I believe that organizing is both an art (the design) and a science (the principles).

One principle that has been on my mind lately is what I refer to as the Preventative Principle or the three-fourths capacity rule.… Continue

Karen,

It was a pleasure to meet you at EOK. I would love to talk more with you about how you determine the level of "help" a client wants. I believe I could seriously err on information overload and know that a person only learns/changes/accepts when they are ready to do so. Is there a series of questions you ask, or just through the years have you created a "sense". It is probably that adult children of my demographic will want to use my business for their aging parents, and I would be fighting an uphill battle if the student isn't willing.
Again, it was nice to meet you. I am certain we will be talking more soon.

what's the snapshot of your TM club? any entrepreneurs? ;-)

maybe we should do a TM mini-contest or panel at KO. I think many people who are into personal dev cross over both groups. I was VP of PR in my club because I recognized the value of showing capacity for officer-level responsibility. (it was an added perk that I ended up being more closely connected to my community.)

cheers!
